Ribeira Izé

Ribeira Izé is believed to have been one of the first towns on the island of Príncipe. It was abandoned after some time because it was so easy for pirates to invade its shores in colonial times. As a result, there is practically nothing left, apart from a ruined church and the remains of a farmhouse belonging to Maria Correia, the daughter of a Brazilian immigrant and a mulatto woman who is remembered for the dynamic way she led her slaves. Known as the Black Princess, her first husband is believed to have been responsible for introducing the cocoa plant to the country. On this tour you will visit the old town of Ribeira Izé, the beach and the cave of the same name.
